ASCM is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1985 with a mission to protect and restore birds, other wildlife, and their habitats through stewardship, education, and advocacy, for the benefit of all people and the earth.

An all-volunteer chapter of the National Audubon Society, ASCM welcomes anyone with an interest in birds and other wildlife to visit our sanctuaries, join our nature walks, participate in our bird and butterfly counts, shop at our seed and native plant sales, and contribute to the protection and management of our wildlife sanctuaries in Mt. Airy and New Market, Maryland.

The American kestrel in our logo symbolizes ASCM's commitment to protecting the wild birds that depend on Central Maryland's natural environment. Our smallest falcon, kestrels are often seen in rural landsapes, but habitat loss is shrinking their numbers. ASCM is determined to help reverse that trend.

To maximize our effectiveness, we work with many groups and organizations that share our goals and values including scouting troops, the Frederick County of the Maryland Ornithological Society, Hood College, Safe Skies Maryland, the Frederick High School Eco-Services Club, and The Smarter Growth Alliance of Frederick. We actively seek additional partners, service projects, donors, and volunteers.
