Big Sit 2021 Results
Saturday, October 16, 2021 brought friendly competition to our sanctuaries as Audubon Society of Central Maryland birders squared off against Frederick Bird Club birders to see who could document the most species while stationed within a 17-foot diameter circles.
ASCM set up camp at our Fred Archibald Sanctuary, while FBC set up camp at our Audrey Carroll Sanctuary. At the end of a long day, the Frederick Bird Club observed 58 species, compared to 55 species observed by ASCM, to take home the Golden Falcon Trophy. Highlights included a family of red-bellied woodpeckers, a soaring bald eagle, and a pair of dueting great-horned owls.
A list of the 68 species observed by the two groups appears below. Species marked in italics were observed only by ASCM; species marked with an asterisk were observed only by the Frederick Bird Club.
