ASCM provides a range of healthy habitats for birds at two beautiful wildlife sanctuaries - Audrey Carroll Audubon Sanctuary in Mt. Airy and Fred Archibald Audubon Sanctuary in New Market. When you attend any of the monthly nature walks, which alternate between sanctuaries, you will see and hear a surprising range of bird species. Many reside at the sanctuaries year round, and some are with us only during nesting season. Many other bird species us the sanctuaries as safe stopover habitat during migration.
Chapter volunteers monitor the bird species that use the sanctuaries through annual bird counts, held each May, and through seasonal monitoring of the nest boxes and purple martin gourds along the trails at both sanctuaries. Learn more about bird counts at our sanctuaries and consider volunteering!
