Projects at Audrey Carroll Sanctuary

- build Chickadee-Snag nesting tubes
- place weedblock and woodchips under 6 old, existing trail benches
- trim tree tops for more Solar Panel sun exposure
- plant several Holly Groves… about 6 to 8 trees each
- plant Baltimore Checkerspot habitat area
- pull Autumn Olive invasives from Post-burned field
- dig out old underground heating oil tank near Gatehouse - environmental
- add storm water diverter systems to Driveway Walking Trail
- monitor Bat Colony and take data for citizen science
- add Garden-Areas to Gatehouse backyard; Various themes
- Re-publish Trail Map
- replace & setback front fencing rails that were broken by car crash
- do invasive plant removal projects; per FSP (Forest Stewardship Plan)
- thin White Pines; per FSP (Forest Stewardship Plan)
- design and plant a Rain Garden near Gatehouse
- remodel bathroom wall and floor in Gatehouse
- construct new Deck for Gatehouse;
(2 part project: joist/posts structure//decking and rails)
- plant buffer of trees & shrubs (about 60) along field edges
- prepare and plant a wildflower meadow (about quarter acre)
- build elevated wetland trail
- devine trees along Old Annapolis Road



Projects at Fred Archibald Sanctuary
6001 Boyers Mill Rd
New Market, MD 21774

- install Keep-Out fencing rail on both sides of new entrance gate (about 200 feet)
- make wooden, routed Audubon Sanctuary sign and mount on front Gate
- Re-publish Trail Map
- plant several Holly Groves… about 6 to 8 trees each
- plant "Monarch Butterfly-Waystation" garden
- plant shrubs, flowers, grasses, vines and ferns in gardens near Entrance
- remove old barbed wire fence on edges of fields
- devine trees in stream bottom
- survey and mark property boundary lines in woods with blue tree paint
- repair culvert on the Left-Trail maintenance road
- create small parking area with gravel
- fabricate and install Wire Fence Cages to protect new pine trees from deer
- acquire and install Bat Colony box on pole
- build Chimney Swift bird nesting tower
- prepare and plant a wildflower meadow (about quarter acre)
- do invasive plant control projects; per FSP (Forest Stewardship Plan)
- purchase and install compost toilet system near Entrance Pavilion


Possible sources of funding include the Chesapeake Bay Trust; Service Clubs in Mt. Airy; US Fish and Wildlife Service; Natural Resource Conservation Service; MD Department of Natural Resources
