Audubon Program on “Creating Natural Habitat for our Feathered Friends"
- 4/11/07
Learn how to make your yard more bird friendly. Proper selection of native shrubs, trees, flowers, grasses and
vines will provide the seeds, fruit, cover and nesting sites that birds need to thrive. Marianne Pettis, Assistant
Director of the Howard County Conservancy, will share her experiences with gardening projects at their Mt. Pleasant
Farm.
In addition, the Central MD Audubon Sanctuary Manager, Bill Becraft, will be on hand with lots of info about the
Audubon’s upcoming Native Plant Sale fundraiser to be held the last Saturday in April at the Audrey Carroll Audubon
Sanctuary located just west of Mt. Airy at 13030 Old Annapolis Rd. and other Chapter activities.
The Audubon Program on Yard Habitat will be at the Eldersburg Library on Wednesday evening, April 11, at 7 pm.
All are welcome. For more info check our website www.centralmdaudubon.org or call 410-795-6546, 301-831-5060, or

Audubon Program on “Using Native Plants for Watershed-Friendly Gardening”
- 4/19/07
Earth-friendly habits are not just “for the birds” – they benefit people, too! You can help the environment while
beautifying your yard, using conservation landscaping measures that will also help improve your property for birds
and other wildlife. Learn how to use native plants and other conservation practices to enhance habitat, improve
local water quality, and create a Healthy Yard. Find out more about the Healthy
Yard Pledge at www.audubonathome.org . Audubon at Home provides tips for
residential, commercial and other areas, in urban, suburban, and rural settings, and even inside the home through
green consumer choices.
Britt Slattery is our featured speaker for this program. She has been a biologist and educator for 21 years and
is the Senior Conservation Biologist for Audubon Maryland-DC, a state program of the National Audubon Society.
She was previously with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 15 years, most recently at the Chesapeake Bay Field
Office where she was Supervisor of the Education and Outreach Program, including the Schoolyard Habitat Program
and the BayScapes Program.
Along with Britt, the Central MD Audubon Sanctuary Manager, Bill Becraft, will
be on hand with lots of info about the Audubon’s upcoming Native Plant Sale. This event features plants selected
to support watershed-friendly gardening, and is a major fundraiser for our local Audubon programs. The sale is
held on the last Saturday in April at the Audrey Carroll Audubon Sanctuary located just West of Mt. Airy, at 13030
Old Annapolis Rd. Check our "News" page for the latest information, plant lists, maps, etc.
The Audubon at Home Program will be at the Mt. Airy Library on Thursday evening, April 19, at 7 pm. No registration
is required, and all are welcome. For more infomation call 410-795-6546, 301-831-5060, or 410-381-0449.
